Reading Faster with P2S2 Technique

In the millennium era, we often use networking, we just type the keyword, then the information that we need will come quickly. It is very easy. However when we have a lot of reading such as, a book, a magazine, a newspaper, or a letter, we will probably have a question that come across in our mind. How can we read all of them meanwhile we have no much time?. Yupzz, here the answer for you in order to do not confuse. I want to try to explain briefly about how to do the reading faster.
As usually, when we are getting a letter from a postman, firstly we will probably look at the address, the stamp, the postcode, and the date in postmark of the envelope. Not only a letter, but also before we read a book, a magazine, an article, or a newspaper, we usually look at the title, the color of book cover, the size of a book, the chart, the picture and even the author. Whatever when we do that activities in reading or see only the parts of reading is called previewing.
After we get the information from previewing, we can guess or assume about the contents of the reading. What does it talk about?. When we make this guesses, we are doing predicting. For example, after we look at the title of the magazine cover is “SOCCER”. Then, look at the picture of magazine cover, there are several pictures of famous player football such as, Christian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Robinho, etc. So, we can guess, it must talks about the football. another Example, when we are looking at the picture of Bali Island. Although we have never been go there, yet, but we can guesses as if we are doing some activities such as, doing conversation with tourism, enjoying the fresh of wind and viewing the nice place around the beach. That all very pleasant! It is also called predicting. Predicting can help us to match the picture with the title of stories and also to predict what will come next in a story.
To find out something quickly or look for the main ideas in a passage, we can use skimming. We do not need to read all of them word-by-words, all the sentences of each paragraph, however we can read it only a few important words, the signal words, and the first sentences of each paragraph. If there are several pictures, charts, or graphs, italic, bold, and underline in paragraph, we have to notice them. Skimming is done at a speed about three or four time than normal reading. It help us to get the general meaning of a whole passage or a text.
And also when we read an advertisement in a newspaper, we often find that there are some information, such as, apartment, courses, for rent, for sale, etc. If we want to find out about specific information quickly, we can use scanning technique. Scanning involves running of our eyes down the page to look for specific fact or keyword. It is usually ignoring unrelated information. For instance, if we need information about English Courses, we can look for it by a keyword “COURSES”. And if we want to rent a car just look at “FOR RENT”, etc.
We can conclude that when we need an information, we may not read some unimportant word in reading. But we can do these reading faster technique, namely P2S2 (Previewing, Predicting, Skimming, and Scanning) that can help us to find out the specific information without spend much more time to read the whole of passage. And, it is also useful to make us easier to understand and to remember more about an information. Please be a good reader!!!
